During WWII, fashion underwent drastic changes. Anxious to conserve material for American troops, women and men alike found ways to stretch and repair what they had.
Magazines employed comical ads showing practical ways to transform ones old clothing into different styles. One such was put out by the "LUX" brand of soap. Some examples of their ads (as seen pictured) read: From castoff pajamas to a couponless blouse...or...Revive your suit with a new blouse and matching lining! Others told how to transform nightgowns, and how to turn "outdoor play frocks" into new quilted jackets.
